Research: HIPERION GPU-based N-body Integrator

HIgh PERformance Integrator fOr Nbody, HIPERION is a direct N-body integrator code that runs on GPU. The code utilizes 4th, 6th, and 8th order Hermite integrator schemes. All calculations are done on GPU to maximize the code performance. HIPERION is capable to handle the interactions of multiple stellar, planetary and planetesimal bodies as well as large number of dusty particles. Massive bodies (star, planet, embryos) are gravitationally interacting, while planetesimals or dusty particles feel the gravitational force of massive bodies, but don't interacting with each other.

Planets are capable to accrete planetesimals and dusty particles according to the prescribed accretional condition based on planetary Hill radius and escape velocity tests. HIPERION is capable to handle embryo-embryo and ambryo-planetesimal collisions in the inelastic approximation, in which case the masses and the momenta of collided particles are conserved. HIPERION uses a hit centre approximation, i.e. embryos, planetesimals and dust particles entering inside the hit centre are removed. HIPERION uses an adaptive time-step method based on 2nd 4th and 6th order prediction schemes.
