Nuclear dust structures in AGNs

Mid-infrared observations of nearby AGNs with VLTI/MIDI show near-nuclear dust structures on the scales of 1 to 10 parsec. On first glance these agree with preconceptions of the "obscuring torus" but the more we look the more complicated they appear. Our large survey of 20 AGNs show that one size does not fit all.
