Cosmic mega-crashes and what we can learn from them

Collisions of galaxy clusters are the most energetic events in the Universe and provide insights into many fundamental problems. These include the acceleration of cosmic rays, the origin of magnetic fields, the study of the properties of Dark Matter and the evolution of galaxies. I will provide an overview of recent theoretical and observational advances in this field, in particular from cosmological magnetohydrodynamical simulations and radioastronomical observations.
