V582 Aur is an FU Ori (FUor)-type young eruptive star in outburst since 1986. The eruption is currently in a bright plateau phase, with photometric and spectroscopic variability superimposed. In this talk I will discuss what is known about the progenitor of this strange outbursting object, present new optical-infrared-millimeter data, and investigate the physical origin of two very deep photometric dips, one occurred in 2012, and one is ongoing since 2016. Such deep fading events, from which the system fully recovered, were so-far undetected in FUors, and we will try to construct a time-dependent physical picture of the circumstellar environment.
